LOOKING TO PRAISE AND WORSHIP JESUS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. 18 No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God, Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has declared Him [He has revealed Him and brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him and He has made Him known].

I almost bought this very book at a Christian book store on Monday but didn't because it was $17.99.
Off to Piper's site I go.

Let's play the opposite game.

Here's another scenario. I have acquired a hefty sum of books. Most of them "Christian." The thing is that only some are high caliber and I wonder what to do with all the ones that produce a theological gag reflex.

Amvets is coming through in a couple of weeks, but should I give them a couple of boxes of things I don't agree with? (liberal theology, pop psychology, egalitarianism, theistic evolutionism, etc.)

Good Question, Craver, but first, what is Amvets? Something to do with American Veterans?

Here's what I would do, personally. Take those puppies to Half-Price Books and get some money back on them. Of course I'm assuming you have a Half-Price Books.

On the other hand, if they're really bad, you may just want to trash 'em.

Susan, are you having trouble getting onto the website? I am, been trying all day. I think it's getting too many hits. I may have to try at 3:00 in the morning!

Mark, I bet you've been trying to order yourself. Not gonna admit it, though, are you?

Yes, Gayla. They're a non-for-profit organization dedicated to serving our American Veterans. They called me this week and mentioned that they would pick up books. But I'm struggling with what to do. Hence, the tangent off of your post.

Gayla,
Yes. It took me hours to get but a few books and a Bible in the cart. When I kept experiencing difficulty with the web page not coming up once I reached the cart and tried to navigate back, I just gave up.
Maybe I'll try later as well. Or not.
After all, it's not like I don't already have enough books to read.
(But wow. Piper at $5/book. Pretty good.)

Susan, and anyone else who's trying to order -

It's impossible to navigate the website, it's so jammed. I called their toll-free number and was able to order by phone. :)

The number is 888-346-4700

Listen to the message an let it finally go to a person. Wow, so much easier.

Here's what I got:

ESV Bible
God's Passion for His Glory
Pleasures of God
Beyond the Bounds
Suffering and the Sovereignty of God
Reflections on Jonathan Edwards
Taste & See
The Justification of God
Misery of Job and the Mercy of God
Future Grace
Amazing Grace - something, something of William Wilberforce

Think that's enough? Should keep us busy for quite some time.

Gayla,
No, I had no success either today in getting through.
Thank you for the number.
That will help.
I plan on getting some of the same books you did.

Gayla,
I got through!
Ordered more books than I should have, inc several for our pastor and his wife and one for my daughter, so that assuages the pain (a bit).
But hey (whisper: Mark:-), they were on *sale*!

All Piper's books should be bought to be burned like the witchcraft and magic books in Ephesus!

Antonio, are you suggesting a cook-out? I'll bring the Rochester-made White hots if you bring the steaks. (I'm always thinking about food!)

Mark,

I love food. I don't know what Rochester made white hots are. Please explain.

Antonio,

I do not know if you are familiar with an outfit called Zwielgles Hotdogs right here in Rochester, NY. They are known for being the only manufacturer of white hots. Very tastey.
